Peghead Shapes
Style A Style A Style B Style B Style C Style C

Choose a shape. These are the 3 styles I usually use. The actual proportions and exact shape will vary slightly depending on the instrument and because I carve these all by hand without the use of jigs.

Style A) A generally traditional shape suitable for most `ukulele.

Style B) This is standard on Keola Beamer Artist `Ukulele, and works very well when we are using a custom peghead inlay.

Style C) This shape is standard on the Island Jazz Series but will work on other `ukulele. It is especially good on 6 and 8 strings.

Tuning Machines
Grover Open Back Geared Tuner

Standard on all 4 string `ukulele, Grover open back geared machines. Light, dependable, work well.

Available in chrome and gold, with black, white, chrome or gold buttons.

Grover Style 4 non-geared friction tuning machines are optional on Pineapple, Standard and Concert sizes.

Available in chrome or gold, antique white or black buttons. No extra charge.

Goto 510 mini tuning machines

Gotoh 510 Mini- I believe the best sealed machine made. Modern design relatively light.

Available in chrome, gold or black. Choice of chrome, gold or black buttons. Add $60.

Grover mini rotomatic tuners

Grover Mini Rotomatics- More tradional looking than Gotoh 510's, I recommend an ebony button to save weight.

Grover mandolin style 309 tuners

Standard on 6 and 8 Stringed Instruments, Grover Mandolin Style 309, either gold or chrome with pea! rloid buttons.

There are, of course many other choices. If you'd like to discuss something else, please contact me.

Fingerboard

Genuine Ebony is standard, Rosewood or Koa may be substituted at no charge.

Inlay
Po Mahina peghead inlay

Standard on all `ukulele is Pō Mahina inlaid in solid shell on the peghead overlay, mother of pearl or abalone shell dots on the fingerboard, and mother of pearl side dots on the edge of the fingerboard. Any of these may be omitted at no charge.

Palm and Moon custom peghead inlay

I really like this Palm and Moon inlay and have done it often. Each is hand inlaid into the peghead overlay material of your choice. Add $140.

Other Examples of Custom Inlay

Custom inlay done to your design on either the peghead or fingerboard of your instrument. If there is something you are thinking about.

Let me know what you would like for inlay and I will give you a quote.

Bindings
Wood bindings

Wood top and back binding is standard on all `ukulele with Spruce, Cedar or Redwood tops.

Wood top and back binding is optional on instruments with Koa, Mango or Mahogany tops — add $100.

Backstrips
Wood backstrip

Usually I make 2 piece backs joined without a backstrip. At your request, you may add a marquetry back strip or one of thin Ebony or Rosewood. This is optional at no charge.

Rosettes
Shell Shell rosette Rope Pattern Rope pattern rosette Wood Purfling Wood purfling rosette

Rosettes are standard and included in price.

Choose a rosette of shell, rope pattern or thin wood purfling.

Finish

All 'ukulele have a standard gloss finish, very thin, but protective.

Optional on all 'ukulele, a very nice semi-gloss/satin finish. More old time looking but still hard and protective. (not an oil finish).

This is probably more appropriate for bodies that are all Koa, Mango or Mahogany than for instruments with Spruce, Cedar or Redwood tops.

Deduct $100 for semi-gloss finish.

Pickups

All `ukulele may be fitted with a pickup. A passive pickup has no internal power source. An active has either a battery, or in the case of the Mi-Si, a rechargable capacitor. All of these are installed with a strapjack and require a standard 1/4" guitar type cable.

If you are sure you will never need a pickup, then of course, no need. If you think you might use one only occasionally, consider the K&K. If you are sure you need a volume control, think about the Baggs.

K&K Twin Spot

Nice passive system with plenty of power, good sound, no volume control. Add $125.

McIntyre Feather `Ukulele Pickup

A very effective passive pickup, perhaps a little nicer than the K&K, no volume. Add $200.

Mi-Si Acoustic Trio

This system features an active, battery-free preamp designed specifically to work with the L.R. Baggs undersaddle acoustic pickup.

The preamp for this system uses Mi-Si's custom piezo linearization scheme - allowing for accurate sound from the pickup

All you have to do is power up for 60 seconds using the Mi-Si Power Charger, providing you with up to 16 hours of performance time. Add $200.

L R Baggs Five.0 Ukulele System

An undersaddle pickup specifically tuned to track the uke’s natural dynamics and unique voice.

The system combines a custom version of the Element undersaddle pickup with a miniature endpin preamp, soundhole mounted volume control and is powered by a 3 Volt coin cell battery. The entire system weighs less than one 9 Volt battery and tucks away neatly inside the small instrument for a relatively non-invasive installation. Add $250.

Cases
Standard Ukulele Case

I recommend a traditional hardshell plywood case, either shaped or rectangular.

I cannot ship in either a gig bag or foam lightweight zipper case.

Depending on style and size, very good cases $75. - $125.

Ameritage ukulele case

Ameritage Cases, ultimate protection, but a little heavy. Available for most styles.

I am an authorized Ameritage dealer.

Silver Series, depending on size, $250. - $300.

Gold Series, depending on size, $350. - $400.

Dennis Lake

These are some of the possibilities. If there is something else you are thinking of please ask. After all, I am creating custom built 'ukulele.

As they say here in the islands, "If can, can. If no can, no can."
